THE RECIPE
Adapted from my mom’s apple pie.
Ingredients:
The bottom:
6 apples, cored and thinly sliced
2 pears, cored and thinly sliced
1/2 cup oats
1/3 cup demerara (or turbinado or brown) sugar
1/3 cup white sugar
1/3 cup wheat flour
1 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp nutmeg
1/2 tsp cloves
The topping:
1 1/2 cup oats
1/2 cup demerara (or turbinao or brown) sugar
3/4 cup wheat flour
6 tbsp butter, melted
Caramel sauce (optional; this is my go-to recipe)
Directions:
Preheat oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit.
• Toss all filling ingredients together; pour into a greased 13″x9″ baking dish (I used cooking spray).
• Mix all topping ingredients, except the caramel, in a bowl, then sprinkle over the top of the apple and pear mixture.
• Bake for 35-40 minutes, until apples and pears are soft but not mushy. Drizzle caramel on top.
Yum! And don’t forget the Apples in Stereo!
Yum, this was delicious! Let’s put vanilla ice cream on top next time!
I meant to pick up froyo from Trader Joe’s and was so bummed that I forgot! Definitely happening next time.
